When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder — much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing — not even a smear of blood — to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

“Book to Movie” Monday is a post about what books I would like to see made into a film or a book that is already in production.

As this is my first week I have to start with a book that I have been dying to see on the big screen and it so happens that it is in production.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.  It is said to hit theatres August 2013. Only just over a year away.

Jamie Campbell Bower is to play Jace,

Lilly Collins as Clary, and

Robert Sheehan as Simon.

They are not my favorite picks (not even close), but I’m hoping they will change my mind when I see them next year 🙂

The demon Lilith has been destroyed and Jace has been freed from her captivity. But when the Shadowhunters arrive to rescue him, they find only blood and broken glass. Not only is the boy Clary loves missing–but so is the boy she hates, Sebastian, the son of her father Valentine: a son determined to succeed where their father failed, and bring the Shadowhunters to their knees. No magic the Clave can summon can locate either boy, but Jace cannot stay away—not from Clary. When they meet again Clary discovers the horror Lilith’s dying magic has wrought—Jace is no longer the boy she loved. He and Sebastian are now bound to each other, and Jace has become what he most feared: a true servant of Valentine’s evil. The Clave is determined to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. Will the Shadowhunters hesitate to kill one of their own?

I want to start by saying that I understand that people have a problem with Cassandra Clare continuing The Mortal Instruments series and not finishing with City of Fallen Angels. The best thing to do is to pretend it was the last one and not to read anymore. Problem solved.

Now for the rest of us who wish the series never had to end, I wanted start with what I loved about City Of Lost Souls. First, I loved that the book was 540pages long. I loved that we got to see more of Izzy, Alec, Maia and of course Magnus. There are so many characters to fall in love with. My favorite couple in this book was Jordan and Maia followed closely by Isabelle and Simon.

There are only two bad things for me:

1) I didn’t find it as addictive compared to the other installments.

2) Clary was pretty annoying at times.

I can’t wait for the next book to come out. I’m sad it’s the last one but I am curious to see where it goes. What will happen with Alec, and Magnus? What about Simon? He isn’t protected anymore and a very big will Clary and Jace finally do it!

One book to go and we have to wait till March 2014. It just doesn’t seem fair but the good news is the next book in the prequel to The Mortal Instruments, Clockwork Princess, will be out in March 2013 to keep us occupied.

If you haven’t read Cassandra Clare’s prequel to The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal devices, Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince, make sure you do. I loved picking up the crossovers in City of Lost Souls.

Also don’t forget to check out all the deleted chapters from City of Lost Souls (there is a very hot scene). You can find these on Cassandra Clare’s Goodreads page.

4 Stars: I really liked it. I recommend it.
