Rick Riordan, The Kane Chronicles

Title: The Serpent’s Shadow
Author: Rick Riordan
Series: The Kane Chronicles
Pages: 401
Format: Paperback
Publisher: Puffin Books
Published:  May 2012
Goodreads

He’s b-a-a-ack! Despite their best efforts, Carter and Sade Kane can’t seem to keep Apophis, the chaos snake, down. Now Apophis is threatening to plunge the world into eternal darkness, and the Kanes are faced with the impossible task of having to destroy him once and for all. Unfortunately, the magicians of the House of Life are on the brink of civil war, the gods are divided, and the young initiates of Brooklyn House stand almost alone against the forces of chaos. To find the answer they need, the Kanes must rely on the murderous ghost of a powerful magician who might be able to lead them to the serpent’s shadow… or might lead them to their deaths in the depths of the underworld…

Cater and Sadie are back for one last fight in The Serpent’s Shadow, the last installment in The Kane Chronicles.

The Kane Chronicles are translated from recordings that the Kane siblings sent to Rick Riordan. Every few of the chapter’s change prospective, from Cater to Sadie, with hilarious brother/sister bantering.

Battling to return Ma’at – order – and destroy Chaos, Cater and Sadie are joined by their friends, to save the world.

In the Serpent’s Shadow we see more of the gods we already love with a few new editions (including a not so friendly ghost). We also see lots of action, a little less humor, but a bit more romance in this installment. Riordan sums up the trilogy perfectly. I was not disappointed.

I’m happy to say that the concluding chapter gives us fans hope that we will see our favorite characters reappear in Heroes of Olympus series.

If there are any fans out there who loved the world of Percy Jackson and the Greek gods, and are thinking about reading The Kane Chronicles, make sure you do (if only for the cross over references later).

You can find more of Rick Riordan’s amazing series, including Percy Jackson on his Goodreads Page

4 Stars: I really liked it. I recommend it.

Obsidian – Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Obsidian
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: A Lux Novel
Pages: 268
Format: Paperback
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Published: December 2011
Goodreads

Starting over sucks. When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up. And then he opened his mouth. Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens. The hot alien living next door marks me. You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Sexy, scorching, and sizzling! Obsidian is a breathe of fresh air. If you thought vampires and angels were hot wait until you meet the sexy aliens in the Lux series. I was hooked from the very first page. Obsidian is full of wit, humor and action. It has amazing story lines and exciting twists. Never has science fiction been sexier. No more green men with big heads. Armentrout gives us hotness beyond our wildest dreams times three.

It is hard not to fall in love with Katy. She is smart and witty; she also gets bonus points for being a book blogger. Daemon is the typical bad boy that gets your blood pumping. One minute you are swooning the next you want to slap him.  Then there is Dee who is gorgeous and sweet.

Only one more month to go and Onyx is out. Yay! I can’t wait to get my hands on more of these amazing series.

Also if you haven’t already, make sure you grab yourself a copy of Shadow (Lux 0.5) from the Lux series. It is even hotter than Obsidian! Dawson is by far my favorite alien and I have a soft spot for Bethany.  It is only short which made me sad as I could have read a whole series just about them.

For a few extra chapters from the series make sure you check out Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Goodreads page.

5 Stars: Amazing! I loved it and could not put it down. I highly recommend it.
